WHEEL-O-MAT - Arcade Machine

I was asked by CineOne, a full-service camera equipment rental, to create custom artwork for their arcade cabinet. What makes this arcade machine unique is its extraordinary controller called Wheels – a device widely used in the film industry for precise camera angle control. Now, you can train your Wheels skills by playing arcade games on the Wheel-O-Mat!

Concept
The team at CineOne proudly call themselves "nerds in digital cinema and camera stabilization." They had a clear vision of the specific camera gear they wanted me to illustrate—most of which I had never heard of before!
So, I started with some research to understand what terms like rickshaw, black arm, or apple boxes mean in the film industry. After that, I moved on to sketching…
Adding Colors
Once the sketches were finalized, it was time to refine the details and color scheme! Since this is an arcade machine, I wanted to match the classic 80s retro aesthetic with a vibrant neon-inspired palette.

From Digital to Arcade
With the final artwork complete, the next step was adapting the designs to fit the arcade cabinet templates. Every element had to align perfectly with the machine’s structure, buttons, and screen.

Bringing the Arcade to Life
Once the prints were ready, it was time for the big moment – applying the artwork to the actual arcade cabinet! Seeing the designs come to life on a physical machine was incredibly satisfying.

Bonus: Custom Crew T-Shirts!
To top it off, I also designed some exclusive crew T-shirts for the CineOne team – featuring elements from the arcade artwork. Now they can represent their Wheels-powered arcade machine in style!
